When I reached out to Fred, we had only six days left before our first-leg semifinal, at U13 level, and then the return match. Although he knew neither our team nor our context, his listening quickly allowed him to grasp what we were dealing with.
Our conversations had an impact on me as a coach, but they also had an indirect effect on the players. Some of my potential limiting beliefs were brought into the light. My perception of that match changed, my attitude during preparation was transformed.
Thanks to Fred's suggestions, his advice, and the plan we put together, I felt I had a better influence on my group. Even better, our work allowed the players to reveal potential and resources I hadn't suspected they had.
The choice of words, the attitude on the sideline, the plan: these elements had a considerable impact. A huge thank-you, Fred. Coming to you on such short notice, I doubted a miracle could happen — and yet, our two best performances of the season came out of our work together.
