Mental Training
for Students

Manage stress better, build confidence, and perform in the moments that matter

You've been working for weeks. Stress builds. Doubt sets in. Confidence wavers.

For some students, these difficulties show up as an exam, a competitive entry, or an oral presentation approaches. For others, they appear much earlier: lack of motivation, procrastination, trouble focusing, fear of failure, or loss of confidence. Others still just want to prepare better and give themselves every chance. Studying doesn't just demand knowledge. It also calls on self-confidence, focus, motivation, stress management, and the ability to handle pressure.

The good news is that these skills can be developed and strengthened.

Expertise drawn from high-level sport

I'm Frédéric Damato, mental performance coach since 2011.

For over 15 years, I've worked with amateur and professional athletes, Olympic Games competitors, business leaders, as well as students and young adults.

My experience in high-level sport has taught me what actually helps a person stay effective when pressure rises.

Today I adapt those principles to studies, exams, competitive entries, and oral presentations, to help students express more of their potential when it really matters.

Why mental training can make the difference

Contrary to a common assumption, mental training isn't just for athletes.

The same mechanisms that influence athletic performance also influence academic success. Learning to manage stress, building a steadier sense of confidence, improving focus, or preparing for an oral presentation — these are all skills you can acquire and work on.

If any of the following sounds like you, working with a coach may be useful:

The goal isn't to eliminate stress completely, but to learn how to understand it better, manage it better, and use it more constructively.

I work with students in CPGE (French intensive preparatory classes) facing high demands and result-oriented pressure. My coaching helps them stay clear-headed, confident, and effective over the long run.

For students, parents, and institutions

Whether you're preparing for an important exam, a competitive entry, an oral presentation, or an interview, mental training can help you build more confidence, focus, and calm.

Many parents also reach out when they see that their child has the necessary abilities but seems held back by stress, doubt, or fear of failure. Mental training doesn't replace work or study. It helps the young person understand how they operate, become more autonomous, and mobilize their resources more effectively.

I also work with high schools, universities, higher education institutions, preparatory classes, and training centres — through talks, workshops, and themed sessions on stress, self-confidence, focus, and exam preparation.

Why mental training for students?

In higher education, competitive entries, preparatory classes, and grandes écoles, the pressure is often intense:

  • Fear of the blank page can block knowledge that is otherwise well mastered
  • Oral exams (interviews, defenses, competitive entries) generate intense stress that can paralyze
  • Lack of self-confidence keeps you from expressing your full potential
  • Managing emotions (fear, doubt, fatigue, comparison with others) becomes a crucial issue

Mental training provides concrete, effective tools to turn stress into constructive energy, regain clarity, and perform on exam day the way an athlete performs in competition.

Over the years, I've led workshops or worked with:

  • Students in preparatory classes and grandes écoles
  • STAPS students
  • Middle and high schools with sport-study programmes
  • Apprenticeship centres and vocational training centres
  • Amateur clubs (football, tennis, basketball, handball…) and departmental committees
