Transform your thoughts to boost confidence and performance
Powerful mental technique for athletes and professionals
The Switch is a powerful mental technique that helps you get out of doubt and get the engine running again. More or less intensely, for more or less time, every athlete—and more broadly anyone facing pressure—goes through phases of mental fragility.
This doubt is all the more insidious because it can appear... in the middle of success.
"Everything seemed to flow. Performances kept coming. And then, suddenly, a grain of sand. A small inner voice. An intrusive thought. And everything wavers."
The invisible — but dangerous — spiral
That grain of sand becomes a crack. Confidence crumbles. Sensations fade. The stress and rumination set in. And the negative spiral starts.
This doesn't only affect athletes
- 🎭 An artist before an audition
- 💼 An executive before a key presentation
- 🎓 A student approaching a competitive exam
Anyone can find themselves destabilized at the worst possible moment.
How does it work?
The process has three steps:
- Stop the intrusive thought (with a word or a gesture: "Stop", "Come on", a pinch...)
- Shift to an image, word, or positive sensation (past success, victory, adrenaline...)
- Anchor that sensation to make it a mental landmark
This work is done in sessions and is trained so it becomes more natural, more automatic, unconscious.
In which situations should you use the Switch?
In competition
- During a match: to interrupt a negative run
- Between rounds or sets: to refocus
- After a competition: to analyze without being overwhelmed by emotion
In professional life
- Before an important interview
- During a delicate presentation
- During strategic negotiations
Integrative approach
The Switch can also be reinforced by anchoring techniques from Ericksonian hypnotherapy, which I integrate into my coaching when appropriate.
